
Starting around 7:52 p.m., gunshots were heard near Thorndale and Winthrop, Thorndale and Kenmore, and Thorndale and Sheridan, according to multiple 911 calls.
One eyewitness account indicated the shooter, described as a young, black male, fled the scene in a red compact car, possibly a Pontiac or an Oldsmobile Alero, said investigators.
Citing police communications, authorities spoke to another tipster who saw a black male wearing a white shirt and dark pants running through an alley near the 5900 block of North Sheridan Road, shortly after the shots were fired.
Around 8:05 p.m., police received information that alleged gang members were started to congregate at Thorndale Avenue Beach.
At the time of this report, there was no indication anyone had been shot and there were no reports of property damage.
UPDATE: Police found shell casings at the mouth of an alley on the 1000 block of West Thorndale Avenue, between Sheridan and Kenmore.
UPDATE: Around 9:38 p.m., more shots were fired on the 5200 block of North Winthrop Avenue. Witnesses saw several black males exchange gunfire, then flee the area.
UPDATE: One shooter involved in the 9:38 p.m. gun battle was wearing a black hoodie with red letters or a red stripe across the chest. The gunman fled the scene in a white, four-door Kia, said police.
