On July 18, 2012, around 11 p.m., Jones was crossing the street near the 2900 block of South California Avenue, on her way to work, when a gray van with white and blue stripes hit her, said authorities.
The van knocked Jones into the opposite lane of traffic, where she was struck a second time by a sheriff's car, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
The Cook County correctional officer was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where she later died.
Based on the Chicago Tribune crime scene photo, Jones was struck on the west side of California Avenue, right outside the security wall surrounding the Cook County jail.
According to my knowledge of the area, there are no crosswalks or traffic lights where Jones was killed.
If you witnessed this incident, or you have any information regarding this crime, please contact the police, immediately.
