An object floating in Lake Michigan prompted an emergency response from rescue workers in the city’s Edgewater neighborhood.

Around 7:59 p.m., a 911 caller spotted an object floating in Lake Michigan along the 6100 block of North Sheridan Road, near Sheridan and Granville.

The object was approximately 150 yards into the water, said police.

According to police dispatch reports, the caller said he thought it was a body.

Upon closer inspection, authorities discovered the item was an “old raft”.

The raft was removed from Lake Michigan and the rescue efforts were suspended.
