AUDIO: Police dispatch regarding Boystown robbery: ‘If he didn’t mess with boys in dresses, this wouldn’t happen’

A Chicago police officer and a police dispatch operator blamed a Boystown robbery victim for his own robbery.

At 5:18 a.m., a robbery in progress was reported near the intersection of West Belmont Avenue and North Halsted Street, in Chicago’s Lakeview, Boystown neighborhood.

Initial reports indicated a Hispanic male was being robbed by four black males dressed as women.

The description of the offenders prompted a responding Chicago police officer to say, “If he wasn’t out so late… this wouldn’t happened”.

“If he didn’t mess with boys in dresses… this wouldn’t happen,” responded a male police dispatch operator.

After speaking with the victim, the same officer who blamed the crime on the man’s decision to be out so late, said the victim was robbed by five black males in their 20s.

The main offender, who has a shaved head, was wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

While relaying the updated information to police dispatch, the officer made no mention of men dressed in drag.

Citing police communications, the muggers stole the victim’s iPhone.
