Cops: Alleged rape in Uptown; attempted rape in Lakeview

Two women, in separate neighborhoods on Chicago’s North Side, were attacked during the early morning hours, said police.

The first reported criminal sexual assault occurred in Uptown, around 3:59 a.m.

According to police dispatch, a woman was allegedly raped on the 900 block of West Leland Avenue, near Leland and Broadway.

The alleged rapist was described as a black male riding a bike with a basket mounted on the handlebars, said police.

The suspect was last seen going eastbound on Leland.

At the time of this report, no further details were available regarding the alleged Uptown rapist.

About thirty minutes later, at approximately 4:22 a.m., a 911 caller reported a woman screaming in a courtyard on the 3800 block of North Pine Grove Avenue, near Pine Grove and Grace, in Lakeview.

Subsequent reports indicated a black male with his pants down, was dragging a white woman in a yellow dress, down the street.

After speaking with the victim, authorities further described the offender as a black man with a light complexion, about 5’9”, and 190 pounds.

The alleged, would-be rapist, who was wearing a light-colored polo shirt and blue jeans, was last seen running eastbound on Grace Street, toward Lake Shore Drive.
