At approximately 10:42 p.m., a Chicago police sergeant attempted to apprehend an alleged intruder at 1609 West Jarvis Avenue, near Jarvis and Ashland.
During the scuffle, the offender managed to escape.
About ten minutes later, an eyewitness heard glass breaking and saw the suspect enter a building at 1630 West Jarvis Avenue, around 10:50 p.m., according to police dispatch reports.
Upon arrival, police observed a male suspect, later identified as Christopher Davis, bleeding profusely in the building’s basement.
Apparently, Davis, who was allegedly high on narcotics, cut himself while breaking into the building.
Unable to negotiate the suspect’s peaceful surrender, police deployed a Taser and took Davis into custody.
The police sergeant and the offender were transported to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois.
Sources said Davis is facing charges of criminal trespassing, criminal damage to property, and battery against a police officer.
