The incident occurred near the intersection of West Lawrence Avenue and North Sheridan Road, around 12:32 a.m.
Authorities noted the address of occurrence as 943 West Lawrence Avenue and shell casings were discovered at 947 West Lawrence Avenue.
One eyewitness said the shooter fled the scene in a small black SUV.
An anonymous 911 caller said the getaway vehicle is a red or maroon four-door SUV.
Investigators said the Vice Lords may be responsible for the latest Uptown shooting and the Gangster Disciples are already planning to retaliate.
The next shooting may occur near Clarendon Park at 4501 North Clarendon Avenue, said authorities.
The shooting victim, a 19-year-old man, was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
