Drowning: Person in the water at Pratt Beach, dies

Sunday, police were investigating a drowning at a North Side, Rogers Park neighborhood beach.

At 3:02 p.m., a woman reported a person in the water at Pratt Beach, 1050 West Pratt Boulevard, near Pratt and Sheridan Road.

According to police dispatch, a person was seen going under water, but never resurfaced.

At 3:09 p.m., the police marine unit spotted a man in the water several feet away from the shoreline.

At 3:25 p.m., police requested an additional unit to keep people away from the pier. Apparently, a large crowd has gathered at the beach.

Moments later, the victim's lifeless body was pulled from Lake Michigan.

When asked if the victim was okay, a responding officer said, "no".

The drowning victim was described as a male white in his 50s or 60s.

He was also described as a male white in his 30s.
