Random police calls: 05/23/2011

8:35 p.m. - A man was robbed in Chicago's Mayfair neighborhood. The robbery took place at the corner of Lawrence and Karlov. A chubby, curly-haired Hispanic man in all black clothing, snatched the victim's necklace and took off. The offender is still at large.

8:39 p.m. - Two black teenagers were involved in a robbery at Kildare and La Moyne. A 15-year-old male and a 12-year-old male stole a brown, 25-inch mountain bike. The 15-year-old was wearing a white shirt and his hair was braided. The 12-year-old was wearing a black shirt, black shorts, and white gym shoes. No arrests have been made.

8:42 p.m. -- A victim was robbed at gunpoint in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. The armed robbery occurred at the intersection of Division and Lamon. A black man wearing a white t-shirt, black pants, and a dark-colored cap, stole $170.00 from the victim. Police are investigating.

8:54 p.m. - A bicyclist was hit by a car door in Edgewater. The accident happened at Bryn Mawr and Winthrop. No further details are available.

8:57 p.m - A citizen reported a group of gang members chasing a vehicle near Clark and Columbia, then south to Clark and North Shore. It's unclear if police ever caught up with the suspects.

9:37 p.m. - A maintenance worker's power-washer was stolen from the corner of Jackson and Canal Street. The complainant described the offenders as "two men". Authorities are investigating.

10:03 p.m. -- A CTA commuter reported a black man harassing passengers at the Lawrence "L" station at 1117 West Lawrence Avenue in Uptown. The suspect was demanding money and threatening anyone who ignored or refused his demands, said the 911 caller. The teenage offender, who was carrying a backpack and wearing a black shirt and black pants, boarded a northbound train to Argyle, where he continued to harass passengers for money. There is no indication police made contact with the suspect.

10:26 p.m. - A man with a Mohawk was arrested at Halsted and Aldine. He, and at least one other person, were allegedly involved in a fight. When police arrived, the man with the Mohawk fled the scene. He was taken into custody at the Belmont "L' station at 949 West Belmont Avenue.

11:04 p.m. - An employee at The Market Place Foodstore, 521 West Diversey Parkway, reported a suspicious person loitering in front of the Lincoln Park business. A black man wearing sunglasses, a brown shirt, and beige pants, was seen pacing back and fourth in front of the store. On May 2, 2011, around the same time, The Market Place Foodstore was robbed by several suspects.
