CTA passenger reports pickpocket on Red Line

According to police dispatch, a thief was seen picking CTA passengers’ pockets on a Red Line train as it passed through a North Side “L” station.

The incident was reported at 3:16 a.m. as a southbound train left the Berwyn “L” stop at 1121 West Berwyn Avenue in Edgewater.

The thief, who was reportedly riding in car number 2687, was described as black man with a medium complexion, approximately 5’9”, and 140 pounds.

The suspect was last seen wearing a white baseball cap, a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with a yellow polo-shirt underneath, and light-colored blue jeans.

According to the 911 caller, the offender robbed several passengers.

Moments later, when the CTA train pulled into the Argyle station at 1118 West Argyle Avenue, the crook was going through another passenger’s pockets, said a witness.

As of 4:36 a.m., there was no indication an arrest had been made.
