Arsonists set fires in Edgewater

Written By Chicago News Report on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 | 5/24/2011 04:06:00 AM

Three garbage cans or dumpsters were set on fire in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

At 3:29 a.m., an officer in the area spotted the blaze on the 5300 block of North Wayne Avenue, near Wayne and Berwyn. A citizen also reported the fires.

Two young, white males dressed in t-shirts and shorts were seen fleeing the area. They were last seen running westbound on Farragut Avenue.

At 3:42 a.m., a 911 caller saw two white males hiding on top of a garage on the 5200 block of North Magnolia. When officers arrived, they were gone.

However, someone, presumably the suspects, left behind a burning pile of leaves, that a citizen promptly extinguished.

According to an officer at the scene, the fire from the garbage cans spread to a garage and a wooden fence.

As of 4 a.m., the offenders were still at large.
