Florida --- I don't care what touchy-feely-psychiatrists and weak ineffectual parents say, Ronda Holder of Tampa Bay, Florida, is a shining example of proactive parenting.
When Holder's 15-year-old son, James W. Mond III, failed to improve his grades, the Florida mom found an unconventional way to get her son's attention.
Holder said taking away her son's phone privileges and other conventional forms of punishment didn't make her son take his grades seriously. And when the 15-year-old troubled student refused to complete an exam, his frustrated mother forced him to stand on a Florida street corner wearing a rather embarrassing sign.
| The sign reads: My name is James W. Mond III. I did 4 questions on my F-CAT and said I wasn’t going to do it! GPA 1.222. Honk if I need and [sic] education. |
Glenton Gilzean saw the teenager bashfully carrying the sign and has offered to tutor the boy. Hopefully, if Mond is struggling with a learning disability, Gilzean, who runs a tutoring and mentoring program for at-risk teens, will help Mond improve his grades.
My two cents: Too many parents are more concerned with their childrens' feelings, when they should be focused on their wellbeing. Our prisons and cemeteries are full of people whose parents gave up on them and looked the other way while they spiraled out of control.
Ronda Holder deserves a great big hug!
