Remember the convicted sex offender who took pictures of young girls on a CTA bus? What about the young man who allegedly took an 8-year-old boy into a bathroom stall at McDonald’s and pulled the child’s pants down? Well, you can add another defective log to the fire.
According to police and the Chicago Sun-Times, 45-year-old Cleveland Barrett, who lives on the 7300 block of North Paulina Street, in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood, sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl. Making matters worse, the girl is reportedly a relative.
The incident occurred on July 6, 2010. The girl’s mother notified authorities of the purported abuse, moments after it happened.
Barrett has been charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
Now, I wouldn't be much of a pseudo-reporter if I didn't ask tough questions. So, I'm wondering how this man gained access to this child, and if there were any signs that he might have been capable of hurting her.
Oftentimes, parents are too trusting where their children's safety is concerned and too timid to confront someone when something seems out of place. If we had all the facts in this case, this could definitely be a teachable moment.
